If someone told me that I could turn back the clock on my skin . . . from all the picking and popping of past pimples . . . the fine lines and wrinkles I've acquired . . . so I can have a flawless complexion like my favorite celebs? Well, praise the skin gods!!! Where do I sign up? 📋
Let me introduce you to medical-grade Microneedling (aka, Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or the "Vampire Facial"). Probably one of THE hottest trends in skincare right now and stars like Kim Kardashian, Bar Rafaeli and others swear by the results!
Microneedling is pretty straight-forward:
Microneedling uses fine, sterile, one time use micro-needles to create tiny "channels" or punctures into the skin.
These tiny needles can penetrate anywhere from 0 to 3.0 millimetres.
By creating micro-channels the skin can then be infused with medical-grade serums like Hyaluronic Acid or PRP for a greater penetration and efficacy.
Technically speaking, these little channels stimulate fibroblasts in the dermis which then promotes a natural induction of collagen and elastin.
Because of these micro-needle punctures, skin and your complexion end up being tighter, smoother and brighter! 🌟Depending on the results you desire and the skin condition, treatments can vary from person to person and are best recommended to have 3-6 spread between 4-6 weeks apart.
So, who can get this done?
Well, anyone who wants to combat anti-aging, but more specifically Microneedling is great for the treatment of acne scarring (ice pick scars and box scars), stretch marks and pigmentation for all skin types. This treatment is also great for fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity. This treatment is not limited to the face - Microneedling can be performed on other areas of the body such as; arms, legs, neck, back, hands and abdomen.
Does this treatment hurt?
Well what's that old adage . . . "no pain, no gain"? Microneedling is a minimally invasive, non-surgical, non-ablative, skin rejuvenating treatment. However, it does require numbing to take the edge off (after all we don't need to be a hero for everything). Once the topical is applied we wait, anywhere from 15-30 mins, then let the needling begin!
What results will I see?
Once the numbing wears off, the heat will begin to settle in and it will feel like a sunburn. Some downtime is to be expected which can manifest itself in tightness, peeling and even slight bruising (but doesn't happen with everyone), anywhere from 2-7 days post treatment. But the magic happens during the first 36-72 hours where the increase of collagen begins as the body goes into fight or flight mode and starts the healing process. This isn't an overnight fix so subsequent treatments are recommended for best results. You are investing in your skin so give it time and patience. You will reap the benefits of long term health improvement of your skin.
How long does the treatment take?
Once the numbing cream is removed, the treatment itself can take between 30-45 mins.
Are there any specifics for home care?
Yes! You can't apply just anything to your face after your microneedling treatment. We will supply you with the products needed to safely take care of your skin for 3-4 days. After the first initial couple of days you can resume your regular skin care routine (with the exception of scrubs and retinol products - these should be avoided for at least 5-7 days).
Last but not least, give it to me. How much will this cost?
Microneedling in our area can range from $200-$600 per session and most places will offer a package discount. At Marigold, our price currently is $350 per session with a package of 3 for $999.
